Our First High School Partner
The Comic Book Project has always targeted elementary and middle school
children. However, the opportunity to help launch a high school comic book club
was intriguing, and the results are extraordinary. Check out the fully produced
comic book created by very special students at Martin Luther King, Jr. High
School in New York City.

About the Pilot
The students who created this work are members of the after-school comic book
club at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School in NYC. The club is supervised by
artist and teacher Phil Dejean. The after-school program is directed by Rebecca
Fabiano, and the program is supported by The After-School Corporation and the
Lincoln Square Business Improvement District.
The students created the work from scratch; the best way to understand the
process is to read the fully designed "A
Do It Yourself Guide to Comics!" created by student Erick Merchan and
teacher Phil DeJean. (Erick also assisted in putting up the Cleveland and NYC
web galleries.) The cover was designed by Kareem Johnson (Gr. 9).
