The Comic Book Project
a program of
Center for Educational Pathways

Imperial County, California, 2008-2009

Through a grant from the United States Department of Education, children in elementary schools across Imperial County created comic books based on their core content subjects. Their publication, titled California’s Most Creative was made possible by a Federal Professional Development Arts in Education grant awarded to Imperial County Office of Education. The Using Sequential Arts (USA) Project provides teachers with 50 hours of professional development in the National and California Visual Arts Standards. In-class modeling and coaching is included as part of the professional development. Teachers engage in learning about the comic book process, drawing, sequential art, English language development, core content correlation, and technology. The grant recognizes the importance of arts and culture in creating educational opportunities, building community, and promoting creativity into learning.
